4th of July Plans!

This is a shout out to everyone here in San Antonio. Unless we are in Fort Worth with our new baby (no news yet), then we are planning to be in the parking lot of The Shops at La Cantera to watch the fireworks from Six Flags Fiesta Texas. The show starts at 9pm.

If you want to come join us, post a comment below and maybe we can hook up before then and go over together. Bring lawn chairs and maybe some goodies to share. We'll bring some treats too.

Here are two pictures from 2006. This was the year we went to Boerne with Ryan and Krista Brown (and family) and the Reading's, who had just barely moved into the ward. We got completely drenched in a crazy thunderstorm and went back to our house to regroup before going over to La Cantera to watch Six Flags' fireworks show. Doug & Kara Charlton and Dan & Erika Brown missed the downpour but got joined us for the show.

If you look closely in this first picture it looks like Ella and Billy are kissing.

Happy 4th!

Take Back Your Mink

" All right, Mr. DeMille, I'm ready for my close-up."

Today was Ella's Spring dance recital with Earl Cobb Dance Studio. It was held at the Lila Cockrell Theater downtown in the Convention Center. You can see a recently remodeled section of the Riverwalk behind her in these pictures.

Ella did a terrific job on her two dance numbers. One was a ballet number in the red outfit ("Take Back Your Mink").

The other was a tap number wearing this great pink feathery job. Here she is taking in the applause.

Seeing this 5-year-old in full makeup is something else.

Happy Father's Day to you all!

Hot Mamas: Beach to Bay Relay Marathon

Okay, here goes nothing. I've decided to throw caution to the wind and actually join the blogging world. After recently perusing our blog, I realized that if I didn't join in at least occasionally, the blog would soon be overridden by marathon stats and more than you could ever possibly want to know about shaving. (Since the Great Shaving Revolution of 2008, it now takes Greg longer to get ready than it takes me. He is pretty--I mean, um, dashing?-- when he's finally done, though.)

That said, it is amusing that my first blog is about running. I don't run far and I don't run fast, but I did run part of a marathon on May 17, 2008. 11 friends and I participated in the annual Beach to Bay Relay Marathon in Corpus Christi, Texas. The 26.2 mile race begins on the beach and ends along the bay, and is run by six-person teams. We had two teams so that we'd have running buddies.

My pal Erika and me. She had run a half marathon a few weeks before, but she very graciously kept to my pace, which was, in a word, slow.

The trade-off--there were actuall batons! Passing the batons was definitely the coolest part of the race.

Here are our two teams at the finish line. Dig the medals! The matching shirts were a stroke of genius (thank you, Kim) because there were thousands of runners and finding teammates was tricky.

After the race a bunch of us spent the afternoon at the beach with our families.

Adam Hansen on Deal or No Deal

Adam Hansen is a good friend of ours. He will be on Deal or No Deal on June 11th. They filmed the episode a month or two ago but he can't say how much he won because of the contracts he signed. I suspect that he won big. Maybe $1million. Here is a preview video.
